As a city, Boise gives you access to a unique combination of urban amenities and outdoor fun. Downtown Boise is wrapped in the outdoors, nestled between the pristine Boise River and the foothills of the Rocky Mountains. Live theater: Live theater in Southwest Idaho is alive and well. The Idaho Shakespeare Festival performs Shakespeare and other playwrights in a stunning riverfront outdoor theater in Boise. Or explore the area’s many other options, including Boise Little Theater, Boise Contemporary Theater and Knock ‘Em Dead Dinner Theater.

Music and Dance: Boise is home to Boise Philharmonic and Opera Idaho as well as several dance companies, including the Trey McIntyre Project, Ballet Idaho, and Idaho Dance Theatre. Or hit one of downtown’s many clubs for live music, dancing and other entertainment.

Art: Explore Boise’s art galleries or head over to the Boise Art Museum to browse its permanent collection or ever-changing exhibitions.

A good meal: Look to downtown Boise for fine dining, including restaurants specializing in steak and seafood, Northwest cuisine and more ethnic fare.

Take a float: By far, the most popular float in Idaho is the Boise River right through downtown Boise. Thousands of locals and visitors use this family-friendly 6-mile float to beat the heat. The put in is in Southeast Boise and the take-out is right in the center of town in Ann Morrison Park. Restrooms, equipment rentals, even a shuttle bus are all available.

Golf: Blue skies & green fairways….what could be better? Southwest Idaho has 20+ golf courses. Tee off on elevated high desert mesas or putt beside a lakeside green.

Take a drive: Boise is a great jumping off point for numerous scenic drives. Follow the Oregon Trail, explore the mountains and lakes or head to wine country. It’s all just an hour or so away.
